"Ryan Greer was born and raised in beautiful Franklin County, VA. His love of music started at a very early age. The youngest of three boys, he was first interested in music by watching his older two brothers play guitar in their teenage years. As a freshman in Franklin County High School, his desire to play music grew stronger with the help of his peers ("The Baker Brothers") deciding to form a blues-rock band in the year 2000. Trying to steer away from the "norm" of his brothers, he decided to play bass. Once heavily submerged in music, his initial influences were that of Classic Rock, Blues and "Jam Bands." The Baker Brothers were a weekly routine for him until they separated for a short time beginning in 2005. In Late 2007 Ryan joined "Barefoot West." Barefoot West has been described as "Reggae-Soul-Acoustic." Throughout late 2007 until his departure in early 2011, Barefoot West was a regular act to perform in Southwest Virginia. During that time the band was awarded by "The Roanoke Times Music Poll" as the 2nd best live act to see in 2008. In 2010 Smith Mountain Laker Magazine awarded the band 1st place as "Best Live Local Band," Also that year Barefoot West was asked to perform and provide music in the feature film "Lake Effects." Two of Ryan's very own songs (Highway from Home and Caroline) can be heard in the film. During off time with Barefoot West, Ryan began performing solo acoustic sets as well as revamping some older acts from the past (Grassquatch, The Baker Brothers). Between 2011 and 2012, that's what kept him busy musically until the unfortunate accident that took the life of his childhood friend and band mate Chance Taylor. After the accident, he was asked by one of Chance's "rock" projects (Drown The Messenger) to play drums. From 2012 till late 2013 he put down the guitar and bass for a moment, and tried focusing exclusively on trying to fill his late friends shoes. At the end of 2013, Ryan was approached by country-punk-folk artists (Riverbank Ramblers) to play bass. From November 2013 until January 2016 Ryan played weekly for the Ramblers throughout Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia and North Carolina. In 2014 The Rambler's were featured in Relix Magazine's "On The Rise" article. Early 2015 they were asked to play "The Blue Plate Special" in Knoxville, TN (which Ryan has since returned as a solo artist/Dec 2017) and later that year performed at the 15th annual Floyd Fest located in beautiful Floyd, VA. Since taking the stage as a solo artist, exclusively since early 2016, Ryan has remained a constant performer in the Southwest Virginia local music scene.
On February 8th, 2019, Ryan and some of his favorite local musicians formed "The Ryan Greer Band"! Performing his music the way it was meant to be heard-as a "full electric" band! Blues driven, Country Southern Soul music that we are all very excited to start sharing with the world! Members are...
Ryan Greer - Guitars, Vocals
Aaron "Moses" Moseley - Bass
Buzz Snow - Lead Guitars
Caleb Fuller - Drums
Throughout his life thus far, he is an artist with an open mind and a open heart. Welcoming all kinds of music and people. You may see him when you least expect it!!!!"
